October is the month of falling leaves, a chill in the air and the smell of pumpkin spice everything reminding us that Halloween is coming. Not that we need reminding. Like most of this year, Halloween is going to look different but by now we’ve learned to create fun experiences with our families no matter what.

October 1 - International Coffee Day
- Isn’t every day a celebration of coffee?! We know that busy moms and dads start their day with a cup (or two or three) of Joe. So we’ve got recipes and crafts to celebrate our favorite morning drink.
October 2 - Name Your Car Day

October 3 - International Frugal Fun Day

October 5 - Do Something Nice Day
- This is a great way to continue International Frugal Fun Day because it costs nothing to be nice. The ideas are endless but here are a few to get you started and don’t let it stop with one day. Make every day Do Something Nice Day and include the kids. Kindness is contagious.
- Hold open the door for a stranger.
- Offer to do yard work for an elderly neighbor or drop off a card.
- Clean out your closets and donate clothes you no longer wear.
- Donate food to a local food pantry that you don’t use.
- Compliment a stranger.
- Donate books you no longer read.
- Bring the trash bin back to the neighbor’s house after garbage pickup or move your neighbor’s newspaper closer to the door.
October 9 - Fire Prevention Day

October 11 - It’s My Party Day

October 16 - Dictionary Day

October 17 - National Pasta Day
- Why are we called Macaroni Kid? When the creators of this website had to pick a name they asked themselves, “What does every kid love?”. Macaroni of course! We agree that most kids (and adults) love pasta so this day is one of our favorites. Here are some recipes that will please any pasta lover of any age.
October 19 - Evaluate Your Life Day
- This day was created for you to take a moment and think about your life. Your past, your present and your future. This is the chance to make changes to improve your life. Did you always want to learn sign language? Have you been meaning to knit your favorite aunt a scarf? Have you been planning to create a weekly family game night? This is the day to start!
October 21 - International Nacho Day
- When you think nachos, you think yummy snack right? Well it doesn’t have to be. We love making pan sheet nacho night! It’s so easy. All you do is pile chips on top of a baking sheet and add whatever you love on top. Cheese, meat, refried beans, black beans, onions, black olives, salsa and bake it in the oven until everything is warm and bubbly. Serve with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole and sour cream on the side and you’ve got a filling and fun dinner. Do you have picky eaters? That’s ok you can create personal pan sheet nachos and get the kids to create their own.
October 24 - Make a Difference Day
- Macaroni Kid’s mission is to make a difference in your lives by helping you create family experiences. We also love to go big! Every year we have a Macaroni Kid Act of Kindness Day in September. Even though it’s October, here is a great article with Ways to Model Kindness at Home.
October 25 - International Artist Day

October 27 - Black Cat Day
- This close to Halloween, it’s not surprising that there’s a Black Cat Day. Some consider black cats to bring bad luck and in movies and shows we often see witches, demons and other scary characters transform into a black cat to escape undetected. Probably because of this, black cats are the least adopted pet in the United States. Thankfully, in many cultures the opposite is true and black cats are seen as good luck, bringing prosperity and even romance. If you’re looking for a cuddly new addition to the family, a black cat might be the perfect choice.
October 30 - National Candy Corn Day
- Candy corn is the sweet treat you either love or hate. There really doesn’t seem to be an in between so for those of you who love it, these 2 recipes are for you.
