Summer Reading Challenge 2020 - Lafayette Public Library

May 27, 2020

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme, Imagine, encourages you to explore the world of fantasy, folk tales, fairy tales, myths, and other titles that foster imagination. We challenge you to help us reach our summer community goal of 3 million minutes read!

To register, simply call any library location or visit lafayettepubliclibrary.beanstack.org.

You can pick up a reading log inside this summer’s BookTalk Online Resource Guide at your local library (coming soon!) or print out the PDF here (Please note that there is only one reading log for children, teens, and adults this year, and all reading will be recorded by minutes read instead of the number of books).

Read & Record:
Read at least 10 minutes a day for a total of 600 minutes between June 1 and July 31. Log your minutes by coloring in the circles or track your reading online to earn badges. Audiobooks and reading to a non-reader count too.

Earn Badges:
The more minutes you read, and the more activities you complete, the more badges you earn on lafayettepubliclibrary.beanstack.org!

Redeem:
Once you’ve read 600 minutes, stop by the library to claim your prize and be entered for a grand prize drawing. The more badges you earn, the more chances you have to win! Keep reading and recording to help us reach our community goal by the end of summer!

*Prize distribution will begin July 1. For minutes to count towards prizes, you may read or listen to books, magazines, graphic novels, or newspapers on your reading level.

Activities Include:

  • Check out an eBook or audiobook from the Lafayette Public Library mobile app
  • Recreate the cover of a favorite book using yourself, your family/pets, and household items.
  • Take a virtual tour of a museum or castle
  • Walk or ride your bike in the neighborhood
  • And more! For a full list of activities to earn badges, visit  lafayettepubliclibrary.beanstack.org.

Virtual Programming

This year, our programs will be a little different. You will be able to participate virtually from the comfort of your own home! Check this website as well as our Facebook page for updates and information about virtual performers, crafts, speakers, and more.

Summer reading programs are designed to encourage students to keep reading during the summer months. Light reading over the summer is a fun and easy way for students to prevent a decline in reading achievement. With our Summer Reading Challenge, children can discover learning activities, teens can strengthen reading skills, and adults can explore great books. We look forward to seeing what you can Imagine!
