Meet the New Quad Chaos Truck Driver Bailey Shea

Phone Interview

By Jennifer Ercoli - Publisher/Editor Macaroni Kid Lafayette March 4, 2020

Meet Bailey Shea, the new Quad Chaos truck driver in the Toughest Monster Truck Tour. Bailey has a long history of racing ATV's and monster trucks and on top of that she is a mother who travels with her one year old son. Bailey is from Lockspring Missouri which is an extremely small town with only 57 people. She grew up driving ATV's and has turned it into a career that she not only loves but incorporates her family too. From the ages of 15-23 Bailey raced 4-wheelers nationally winning many championships. She made the transition from 4-wheelers to monster trucks when she was 23 years old and drove the Scooby Doo truck for Monster Jam. This opportunity allowed her to see the world as they traveled internationally for shows. Bailey took some time off after becoming a new mom and in August 2019 decided to join the Toughest Monster Truck Tour in 2020 as a driver for Team DCT which includes the truck she drives now, Quad Chaos, and Dirt Crew.

MK: Why did you decide to join the Toughest Monster Truck Tour?

Bailey: Because I appreciate the fact that DCT is family owned as is the Toughest Monster Truck Tour and both are strongly family oriented. I explained to them that I have a son, he is exclusively breastfeed (he has never taken a bottle) and has to travel with me. They had no issues with that and are completely supportive. My son is now 11 months old and everyone in the Toughest Monster Truck family loves talking and playing with him. And my son, Huck, loves all of the attention. He is an extremely happy baby and travels easily.

MK: Can you give us some insight as to what it's like traveling with an 11 month old?

Bailey: My mom and dad both travel with me when they can. One of them is always with us. I couldn't do it without them. Huck is a very happy baby and extremely used to traveling. We do try to stay on a schedule as he has an 8 pm bedtime. Monday - Wednesday we are home back in Missouri. We usually leave on Thursday and return home on Sunday. Having a little down time each week helps us re-coup. My husband travels for work as well in a different field. We see each other periodically in different cities and at home. It's not exactly easy but we make it work.

MK: What is a disadvantage of traveling on tour with Huck?

Bailey: The major disadvantage is avoiding sickness. Currently, because of the coronavirus we are not flying at all.

MK: What are the advantages of traveling on tour with Huck?

Bailey: The major advantage is getting to see the world with my son and giving him those experiences. He has already been to more places than most people ever will. He is developing great social-skills meeting new people daily. And we will most likely home-school on the road which I am excited for.

MK: Macaroni Kid is all about family fun and we appreciate that you provide just that. What are some things your family does for fun?

Bailey: I have a very large and very tight knit family. Every Sunday we have a big family dinner at grandma's and this is a tradition 35 years in the making. Aside from hanging out and eating we love riding ATV's together on our property.

MK: What do you hope to do in the future for family fun as Huck gets older?

Bailey: First I will say I am done with traveling internationally. I did so much in the past including a one month tour in Europe among the many other places I traveled to drive Scooby Doo (laughing). I would love to see Huck and his cousins race mini razors (side by sides) and get into the world of racing ATV's.

MK: Our subscriber base is majority moms. What would you like to tell them before we sign off?

Bailey: I understand! Motherhood is hard and dirty. I get it, the crazy hair, no make-up days. Moms are the most badass people I know!
