Description
This is the National Championships for USA Karate, which is the National Governing Body for the sport of Karate in the USA. It draws top athletes from across the USA from ages 5-60 with skill levels ranging from beginner to elite. This is a 4 day competition in which athletes compete in kata (forms), kumite (sparring) and kobudo (weapons) to earn the title of National Champion. In addition to the National Championships, this event is also the selection event for the US Junior National Team. Athletes 12-20 will compete in Elite level categories to earn a spot on TEAM USA and represent the USA in the Jr. Pan American Karate Championships this August in Punta Del Este, Uruguay and at the Jr. World Championships in Venice, Italy this October. This event will also host our USA Karate Olympians from the Tokyo Olympics and our reigning Sr. National Team members. Finals on Sunday night will focus on the final matches of the 12-20 Elite categories.
