At Folk Roots Kids Camps, Louisiana’s vibrant Cajun and Creole culture comes to life through music, dance, folklife, and outdoor fun. Each day is filled with hands-on experiences where kids can learn to play traditional instruments like the accordion, fiddle, guitar, bass, and rubboard—no instrument? No problem! We offer loans to make sure everyone can join in. Mornings kick off with our beloved “biscuits & jam” music circle, setting the tone for a day of rhythm and connection. Campers jump into dance sessions featuring line dances, two-steps, and waltzes, and spend time outdoors exploring and creating through games and crafts. The week wraps up with a joyful finale performance and dance, where families are invited to celebrate what the kids have learned.
By popular demand, we’re excited to announce that our camp has expanded to three locations across Acadiana—each offering a unique experience that celebrates the vibrant culture of our region. In Lafayette, campers will enjoy scenic boat rides at Vermilionville, blending outdoor adventure with a touch of local history. Over in Opelousas, we’ll be marking a special occasion with a 100th birthday celebration for the legendary Clifton Chenier, the King of Zydeco. And in Eunice, young musicians will have the chance to dive into the rhythm of Acadiana through engaging harmonic workshops. No matter which location you choose, each camp promises a summer full of creativity, culture, and unforgettable memories!
More than just a camp, Folk Roots Kids Camps are a joyful way to pass on the rich traditions of Cajun and Creole heritage to the next generation. À bientôt (See y’all soon)!
