Festivals Acadiens Receives Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful

August 29, 2024

Festivals Acadiens et Créoles has been awarded The Greener Grounds Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The reimbursement grant, which can be for up to $10,000, supports Louisiana's large outdoor events, including festivals and fairs, in implementing best practices for litter prevention, recycling, and waste reduction as outlined in the new Greener Grounds Guidebook and Workbook.

The grant will support Festivals Acadiens' ongoing commitment to the environment and recycling program initiated in 2005. Gregory Guidroz, Recycling Committee Chair and Recycling Supervisor for Lafayette Consolidated Government stated, "We first implemented our recycling program in 2005. We started by removing styrofoam and utilizing recyclable plastic cups and expanded from there. We recycle about 36% of all the waste produced by the festival, which is a significant number. We also removed glass containers and switched to recyclable cans for our beer selections."

Festivals Acadiens is one of more than 400 festivals and events held annually. Locals and tourists celebrate the vibrant offerings of the event held in Lafayette's Girard Park. Festival organizers have always adhered to the "Leave it better than you found it" philosophy and continually work to improve waste and litter management.

Festivals Acadiens et Créoles is actively recruiting Litter Bug volunteers and other volunteer positions. For more information, visit FestivalsAcadiens.com today.
