Announcing the AHSA Commandos Home School Volleyball Team in Acadiana

Find out about getting your homeschoolers involved in Acadiana Home School Athletics this year

By Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia March 20, 2024

As a homeschooling family and avid volleyball lover, I am super excited to announce this new endeavor that will bring the sport of volleyball to the students who are homeschooled throughout Acadiana!

Last year Acadiana Home School Athletics held several clinics at the Cajun Elite Training Facility for local homeschoolers. My family and I participated in just about each one and loved it. We had students from several parishes who showed up to play, learn, and have fun. The group was a mix of experienced players and those who had never played before. It was great to see all of the students leave each clinic with huge smiles on their faces, asking when they could come back and do it again.

That interest led Caroline Mader to dig in and find out more about what could be done to create a new sports option for local homeschoolers under the existing umbrella of sports through the Acadiana Home School Athletics portfolio. Currently, the Acadiana Home School Athletics offers track, cross country, soccer, track and field, and tennis for homeschooled students. After plenty of research and phone calls, Caroline and her team are ready to hold tryouts for the upcoming 2024- 2025 season.

The homeschooling community has grown significantly in the last couple of years and many parents actively seek events and activities to get their students involved. I am happy to be a part of the coaching team and support this new endeavor that will add to our growing homeschool community in Acadiana.

How Can You Get Involved?

This will be the first league of its kind for Acadiana homeschoolers and will be part of the already existing athletic programs through Acadiana Homes School Athletics. Games and divisional records will go through the Association of Christian Educators in Louisiana (ACEL). As this will be the first year of the official inception, the team is seeking sponsors and support from the community to make this a successful endeavor.

All parents interested in learning more about the league and getting their families involved are asked to join the coaches and staff at the parents' meeting this April at the East Regional Library in Youngsville on April 3, 2024, at 6:30 pm. The AHSA Commandos Volleyball Team will have both a girls and boys team available for the 2024 - 2025 season that students can participate in. The age requirements are:

  • Boys age 12 and up
  • Girls ages 10 and up

There will be a $25.00 fee per student to register for the tryouts happening on April 22 and April 23, 2024, at the Cajun Elite Training Facility in Lafayette.

The fee will cover the student's participation in both the pre-tryout clinics and the official tryouts later in the month. The pre-tryout clinics are not mandatory, but are for those students interested in getting tips and pointers on the sport before the actual tryouts later in the month. Fees will be due for each student at either the pre-tryout clinics or the official tryouts later in April. You can get more details on the pre-tryouts and official tryouts on our Macaroni KID New Iberia calendar.
