57 SECONDS screening; If/Then Film Pitch Workshop; Writing Challenge Submission Deadline Extended
Southern Screen is hosting a public screening of the 57 SECONDS is on Thursday, October 5th at 7PM at The Grand 16 (3141 Johnston St, Lafayette, LA 70503). Presented by Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority (LPTFA), the film was shot in Lafayette, LA in 2022 and stars Josh Hutcherson and Morgan Freeman. When a tech blogger lands an interview with a tech guru and stops an attack on him, he finds a mysterious ring that takes him back 57 seconds into the past.

The Southern Screen 2023 Writing Challenge has extended its deadline to Tuesday, October 10th at 11:59PM. Top 10 Finalists will be announced early November. And the winner will be announced at the Southern Screen Festival on Friday, November 17 at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette, LA. Writers 18+ in age are invited to participate in short fiction writing competition themed “A Story of Perseverance.” Submissions should be in prose, can be in any genre, and should not exceed 1,500 words. A $10 entry fee will be required for all submissions. The Top 10 finalists will be announced prior to the festival and the winner will be announced the evening of the event as part of the Southern Screen Festival- November 16-19. Additionally, the winning piece will receive $250, it will be read during the event at Southern Screen and will appear in The Current, and Louisiana Literature Journal. The winner will also receive a pass for the remainder of the festival.

If/Then Film Pitch Workshop Tuesday, October 24th at Acadiana Center for the Arts (101 W Vermilion St, Lafayette, LA 70501). Hear from pitch mentors Field of Vision’s IF/Then Shorts for sage advice on preparing a dynamic pitch toolbox to fit various situations. The class is open to everyone, and Acadiana filmmakers can pre-register to practice pitch their film live during the workshop and receive feedback in real-time. Presented by Creative Acadiana and Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA).
