Visiting the dentist begins at just one years old and choosing the right dentist for your child can be quite the task. That's why we wanted to introduce you personally to Dr. Reviere and Dr. Tatford with Roots Pediatric Dentistry. They absolutely love what they do and take the time to make each child feel comfortable with their processes. And what better time to make this introduction than National Children's Dental Health Month? Keep reading to learn more and at the end click the image to visit their website and book an appointment.
1 -What are your names? What is the name of your business?
Dr. Adrienne Reviere (Adrienne Reviere, DDS, MSD
Dr. Evan Tatford (Evan Tatford, DDS, MDS)
2 - Any interesting information on how you named your business?
Dr. Reviere - When coming up with a name for the practice, I wanted something unique that told a story. Just like strong roots are the foundation for any growing thing, I believe the same is true for building the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health for our growing children. Our goal is for children and their families to plant their “roots” with us in a safe, welcoming environment where their children can grow and flourish without fear of the dentist. Visiting the dentist early (the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first dental visit happen by their first tooth or first birthday, whichever comes first) helps establish that strong foundation. We aim to cultivate healthy smiles from infancy through adolescence and beyond!
3 - How long has your practice been in business? (feel free to provide details on the acquisition/expansion in this section)
While the name Roots Pediatric Dentistry may be new, the practice has been around for over 40 years. Dr. John Hendry started Dr. John Hendry & Associates in 1980 and spent decades serving the children of the Acadiana area. Dr. Reviere took over the practice in 2022 and rebranded to Roots Pediatric Dentistry, and Dr. Tatford joined the practice later that year. One of our favorite things about the practice is that we are now treating some of the children (and even grandchildren!) of Dr. Hendry’s earliest patients. We continue to strive to provide the best pediatric dental care to the children of south Louisiana.
4 - What inspired you/encouraged you to start your business?
Dr. Reviere - My father and grandfather were small business owners, so owning my own practice is something I aspired to do since childhood. I am very fortunate to have been able to carry on Dr. Hendry’s legacy.
Dr. Tatford - Let’s face it, not many people really enjoy going to the dentist. This usually stems from an unpleasant dental experience at some point in their life, most often a traumatizing experience as a child. We have the ability to introduce the profession of dentistry to children in a warm and welcoming way. This has been the main inspiration in choosing pediatric dentistry.
5 - What do you love about your profession?
Dr. Reviere - Pediatric dentistry is FUN! Every day is exciting and presents a new challenge. I love interacting with patients and their families and watching them grow through the years. One of my most favorite things is seeing a patient overcome their fear and build confidence in themselves while they figure out that coming to the dentist can be fun and easy!
Dr. Tatford - Seeing the joy and excitement on a child’s face after a positive experience at the dentist! The dentist's office doesn’t have to be a scary or traumatizing place. We love to make going to the dentist a fun experience! Not to mention, our office staff is absolutely amazing! Everyone at Roots Pediatric Dentistry is so positive and wonderful to be around!
6 - What about the job that you love has surprised you over the years?
Dr. Reviere - While this isn’t surprising, one of the things I love most about my job is the relationships that I form with patients and their families over time. Unlike some other medical specialists who you may only need to see once to treat a specific problem, we see our patients routinely twice a year, so we are able to stay connected and keep up with what’s going on in their lives.
Dr. Tatford - There haven’t been many surprises yet. Pediatric dentistry is such a rewarding career that it is all truly enjoyable.
7 - Tell us a little bit about your family life.
Dr. Reviere - My husband, Chance, and I have an 8-year-old son named Thomas and a golden retriever, Lucy. We also have lots of nieces and nephews that we enjoy spending time with. Chance is a high school baseball coach, so springtime for us is filled with road trips and ballparks!
Dr. Tatford - I met my wife, Maddi, during our freshman year of college in 2011. We’ve been married for 6 years now and have two beautiful daughters, Anna-Kate (4.5 years old) and Mimi (13 months).
8 - What does your family like to do for Family Fun?
Dr. Reviere - We love spending time outdoors. Whether it’s traveling across the country exploring National Parks, or playing baseball in the backyard, we enjoy being active.
Dr. Tatford - We love going on walks in our neighborhood, exploring Moncus Park, and grabbing a sweet treat either from Meche’s donuts or Borden’s Ice Cream!
9 - What do you do to take care of yourself and how do you make time to do it?
Dr. Reviere - Self-care for me is sometimes as simple as taking a walk around the neighborhood or spending a few minutes of alone time outside to unwind after a busy, chaotic day. I also enjoy volunteering; sometimes the best way to care for yourself is to care for others. I am an active member of the Junior League of Lafayette and have enjoyed being involved in the community and the many wonderful friendships I’ve gained from being a part of the League.
Dr. Tatford - Being a pediatric dentist and father to two young girls, there’s not much free time in the day, but I try to make time for exercise, usually early in the morning before the rest of the family is awake. Another outlet I enjoy is cooking. Whether I’m feeding an army or one picky daughter, I enjoy my time in the kitchen.
10 - What can we do to support you in the community?
Dr. Reviere - One of the biggest things I wish people in the community knew is that dental disease is almost 100% preventable! By visiting the dentist by your child’s first birthday or the eruption of their first tooth, you are helping lay the groundwork to keep your child cavity-free for life.
Dr. Tatford - Advocate for pediatric dentistry! Many people aren’t aware that as pediatric dentists, we complete additional training to better treat your children. At Roots Pediatric Dentistry, we want to see your children grow with us!
11 - What is your favorite spot to go around the town?
Dr. Reviere - We love Moncus Park. Whether it’s the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings or one of their many holiday events like Autumn in the Oaks or Christmas in the Park, there are so many amazing family-friendly activities to take part in. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful, safe outdoor space to enjoy right in the heart of Lafayette.
Dr. Tatford - When we’re with the kids, you will often find us at Moncus Park. If not there, we try to support Ragin Cajun athletics whenever we can. Whether tailgating at Cajun Field, or sitting down the first base line at Tigue Moore Field, you can always find us wearing Ragin Cajun Red!
