Friday, September 17 | Chris Ardoin
Chris Ardoin joins us as a first-time Downtown Alive! performer, kicking off the Fall 2021 Season. After finding regional teenage fame in the ’90s as an accordionist in new zydeco group Double Clutchin’, third-generation Louisiana music scion Chris Ardoin upped the ante with “Put n’ Work,” “Stallion,” and other foot-stomping zydeco/R&B/rap fusions.
Friday, September 24 | Cupid
Lafayette’s own Cupid, who shuffled his way into the hearts of millions with the up-tempo party song “Cupid Shuffle,” will perform at DTA! on September 24. While his music has filled many a wedding reception and cruise ship onboarding, new singles like “Crawfish” and “Flex” have solidified Cupid as a household name. With a full discography that’s a melting pot of bluesy soul, gospel, rock, and hip-hop, Cupid has a portfolio that impresses and is sure to get viewers on their feet.
Friday, October 22 | Marc Broussard
Marc Broussard is an artist with a unique gift of channeling the spirits of classic R&B, rock and soul into contemporary terms. This gift has been a matter of common knowledge since 2002, when Broussard released his debut album, Momentary Setback, which he recorded and released independently at age 20. Since, Marc has garnered national success releasing records and performing on national stages such as Jimmy Kimmel Live! Conan O’Brien, and the 2008 NBA All-Star Game. His latest record, Easy to Love, is currently available under his own record label.
Friday, November 5 | Wayne Toups
“The Cajun Springsteen,” and now holds the title of “Grammy Award Winner” The Grammy Award caps a wave of career highs for Wayne Toups. In 2009, he earned an Album-of-the-Year award from Offbeat magazine. In 2010, he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. In 2011, he entered both the Gulf Coast Hall of Fame and the Cajun French Music Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame. Wayne Toups picked up the accordion at age 13 and hasn’t put it down since. He mixes Cajun sounds with the rhythms of zydeco, adding elements of soul music and Southern rock. He calls the revved-up result “ZyDecajun,” and his electrifying group, “a Cajun fusion band with a rock ‘n’ roll attitude.”
