Summer Camp 2019 at Vermilionville

June 10, 2019

Bonjour!

Vermilionville will be hosting our 7th Annual Summer Camp Series! Each week caters to a specific age group that provides skill level appropriate demonstrations and hands-on craft opportunities for ages 5 – 12.

Camp dates are as follows:

Week 1: English, Ages 5-8 – June 17-21
Week 2: English, Ages 9-12 – June 24-28
Week 3: French Immersion, Ages 5-8 – July 8-12
Week 4: French Immersion, Ages 9-12 – July 15-19

Camp will start every morning at 8:45 a.m. (morning drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m.) and end at 4 p.m.  On Fridays, we will finish at 1:30 p.m. following the family lunch and end of camp ceremony. We will also provide the campers with breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack from our restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman. All campers are required to have completed Kindergarten or a home-school equivalent.

Throughout the week, campers will learn about the many things that make Acadiana so unique. For part of the week, they will focus on:

  • the earth;
  • plants;
  • bayous;
  • natural resources of Louisiana.

Kids will also explore our historic village and learn about what life was like for the Acadians, Creoles, Native Americans, and people of African descent during our time period of 1765-1890. Campers will work with our artisans and our musicians to learn about their crafts and history.

Each day, participants will partake in hands-on projects they will take home at the end of the week. Of course, we have included favorites such as canoeing, fishing, tomahawk throwing, as well as exciting, new activities! They will record their activities over the week in their very own hand-made journal. The week will end with a "show off" day for parents and siblings (Noon - 1:30 p.m. on Friday).

This camp will emphasize both the English and French language, however, the last two-week sessions will be conducted entirely in French. Children should be fluent in French or have completed a minimum of 1 year in a French Immersion classroom to participate in a French immersion session.

The registration fee covers all materials associated with hands-on crafts as well as food. If your child has any dietary restrictions, please indicate this to us on the registration form. We recommend that campers wear comfortable clothes and bring a beach towel, mosquito repellant, sunscreen, a hat and a change of clothes.

The total cost for each week is $250, which includes the cost of a camp t-shirt and water bottle. Additional siblings who register for camp will receive a $50 discount off the final balance. There is a required, non-refundable deposit of $100 upon registration. There is a $3 charge to pay online.
