Camp Thingamajig - Avoid Brain Drain with this Summer Camp!

May 16, 2019

Summer camp season is here!  We know that camps will have physical activities throughout their summer camp experience.  And, while the summer is about fun, a camp can be so much more.  A camp can be the nurturing, fun and energizing environment that stimulates the brain.

Camp Thingamajig is not just fun in the sun, but also helps address the “summer brain drain.”  The camp starts June 3 and goes to August 9 and is for ages 5 – 13.  The camp location will be Thomas Park Recreation Center, 300 Geraldine Drive – Lafayette, off Camellia Boulevard. Their daily hours are 7 am to 3 pm and lunch is included!   Their motto is “One Camp, One Location, All Summer.”  Instead of having to take your children to multiple locations, their activities are varied to include all-sports, arts & crafts, mad scientist experiments, escape box and pickle ball.

This camp is striving to give kids a fun filled summer, sneaking in a bit of reading and STEM into the day to keep kids ready for school year.  “We want our children to have a safe and fun summer, but we also know the summer brain drain is real.  To give you a better idea of how brain drain can affect your child, consider this: During the summer months, if students aren’t being engaged, they lose around two months of grade-level math skills and reading comprehension” stated Justin Sturgis, Camp Co-Director.   Camp Thingamajig will also provide FREE college prep/ACT courses to teens who are working the camp for community service hours as well.
