On Oct. 12-14 in Girard Park, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles will welcome people of all ages for a
weekend of music, dancing, arts and crafts, food and fun. For 44 years, this Lafayette festival has
celebrated the Cajun and Creole culture of South Louisiana, while also introducing the next generation
to the history of their heritage. Through two different children's areas, multiple generations up on stage
playing music and a variety of Cajun food, kids can experience the unique culture of our region.
At La Place des Petits, sponsored by the Children's Museum of Acadiana and located right next to the
playground, young ones can enjoy arts and crafts, activities, games and story time. This year's arts and
crafts projects include making a scrub board, fleur de lis paper ornaments, maracas and a paper plate
tambourine/noise maker A second children's area in the Louisiana Craft Fair invites kids to have their
face painted, watch a blacksmithing demonstration and make an original craft with an artist.
Hours for La Place des Petits are Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
If that's not enough, kids are also welcome to bring their musical instrument and join in a jam session at
the Jam Ça! tent.
Festivals Acadiens et Créoles is always free and offers plenty of cool treats—from ice cream to
snowcones—to help keep kids cool. The festival kicks off with the Cutting of the Boudin at 5 p.m. on
Friday, Oct. 12, and continues through Sunday, Oct. 14.
