On the evening of August 31, 2010, Carol Trosclair heard the words that are a parent’s worst nightmare. The news changed her life in an instant.
The evening before David had flu-like symptoms and took a prescription medication to help him recover enough to go to class the next day. But his symptoms worsened, and the followingday David took an over the counter medicine and his prescription simultaneously; this combination stopped his heart.
Unbeknownst to Carol, out of some 1000 Kinesiology majors at ULL, her son David Trosclair was a top student – and so the university established The David Trosclair Memorial Scholarship in Kinesiology to acknowledge his academic achievements and to carry on his legacy.
With the help of David’s Kinesiology Professor, Dr. Brian Campbell and that of family and friends, Carol founded the 501-c-3 non-profit, Impact Acadiana. The purpose of this organization is to provide scholarships and professional development opportunities for UL Kinesiology undergraduate and graduate students, promote the field of Kinesiology throughout the communityand to assist other non-profits and local community organizations raise thousands of dollars. These organizations include Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Acadiana, Louisiana Open, Vermilion Chamber of Commerce, Abbeville Rotary Club, and the Ragin Cajun Athletic Celebration, to name a few.
This completely volunteer run organization has also contributed the needed funding to endow seven new research grants through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
To raise money to benefit scholarships and the community, during the months of September, October and November, Impact Acadiana is selling $10 raffle tickets.
What do you get for your $10 ticket? A lot! Not only are you supporting a great cause, but you also will be entered to win a custom designed Caribbean Cruise for two from Travel Machine.
