Healthy Kids Running Series Coming to Lafayette to Encourage Kids to Get Up and Geaux

The Healthy Acadiana Coalition is hosting their inaugural Healthy
Kids Running Series beginning Sunday, September 23 until October 21 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM each
Sunday. Healthy Kids Running Series is a non—profit program created to provide kids with a positive,
educational, and fun experience in the world of running. Cities across the country are taking the Healthy
Kids Running Series and bringing it into their towns to combat the increasing rates of child obesity in
America. It is designed to motivate kids to be healthy and active and provide a fun environment to
improve their self-esteem.

“The Healthy Acadiana Coalition is a group of individuals who have been challenged to create
opportunities in the community that provide family friendly events encouraging healthy lifestyles. The
Healthy Kids Running Series is one of those opportunities. This event creates the space for families to be
active together. By setting the basic foundations of life, parents are the number one source affecting the
way children feel about living a healthy lifestyle. Parents who exercise with their children are not only
teaching them how to live a healthy lifestyle, they are also reinforcing the family bonds and creating
wonderful family traditions,” says Nanette Cook, Councilwoman District 7.

Race distances are broken up into age group divisions.
Pre-K - 50/75 yard dash
Kindergarten and 1st grade - ¼ mile
2 nd and 3 rd grade - ½ mile
4 th and 5 th grade - 1 mile
6 th to 8 th grade - 1 mile.
