If you are like us here at Macaroni Kid, you probably have at least one pet roaming through your house or yard right now. They may even be considered your first baby. They are probably the protector of your little ones now. I know my dog is. My child simply adores our dog and vise versa. Well the month of April is National Heartworm Awareness Month. Is your pet protected? Better check your calendar, make sure your pet is up to date on all their vaccines because we want all babies to be taken care of, even your fur babies. - Lindsey Tripp
Our lovable doggie, Charley (the darker dog in the front of the picture) became ours in December 2016 and we couldn't be any happier to have him. At the time he was a stray that needed a home. I answered a girls Facebook post and agreed to meet the dog. I knew when I met him there was a reason someone was not claiming him. He was to perfect. Loved attention, didn't jump, adored my baby girl, so what was the problem? Heartworms was the culprit. I knew we were taking the chance when we agreed to adopt him but I didn't care. He deserved better. Treating heartworms is not cheap or easy. After the treatment is given the dog needs to stay "calm" for weeks. This is near impossible especially with 3 kids in one house. However, we managed and Charley became 100%. No more pesky cough and wheezing. Seeing your pet suffer is not easy. What is easy is getting them treated.
