Let It Rain - More Stuck Inside Science Fun!

By Lindsey Tripp - Macaroni Kid Content Contributor April 18, 2018

Seems like lately all week long we are having beautiful days.  Warm sunshine playing peek-a-boo through the white fluffy clouds.  But by the time the weekend rolls around and the kids are ready to spend the entire day outside, the rain comes back around to ruin our plans.  While being stuck inside does have some benefits like catching up on Macaroni Kid :), watching tv, trying out new recipes, maybe even some extra cleaning (Yeah right!).  Our kids tend not to see it that way.

Well we have tried another great science experiment to keep the kids entertained for a little while during these uninvited storms.  All you need is a clear cup/jar of water, shaving cream, and food coloring.   Your kids are sure to love it because they can do this science experiment mostly on their own with just your guidance.

Start by filling your cup/jar up with water a little over half way.  Then add shaving cream on top.  Try not to mix the shaving cream in the water, just let it sit on top.  After you can let your child pick a color and let them start squeezing in the coloring.  I suggest starting with 4 drops in the same area but depending on how thick your shaving cream is, you may need more.  Soon, the coloring should start “raining out of the cloud”.  This is a cheap, fun opportunity to teach your children about rain while being stuck inside.
