All About the Fizz

Fun Science Experiment

By Lindsey Tripp - Macaroni Kid Content Contributor April 3, 2018

Sometimes it is the little things in life that make children happy.  To us, some things seem so minor but to them it is amazing.  We recently tried a new science experiment that my son was able to do most of the work for and the look on his face when the fizz started was priceless.  What fizz?  Let me tell you about it.  All you need is a muffin tray, baking soda, food coloring, and vinegar.  Most of you have all this in your kitchen right now.  But be prepared, you may not want to do this in your kitchen.

Start by letting your little one put some food coloring in each section on the muffin tray.   Take this as an opportunity to show them about mixing colors to make other colors.  Once they have put their food coloring, add a little baking soda on top of the food coloring.  I suggest a teaspoon.  Not much is needed at all.

Then let the fun begin.  Start pouring a little vinegar into each section.  Here comes the FIZZ!
