Parent With a Purpose: Reginald "Reggie" Smith

October 12, 2017

Most of us know or have met someone who does good deeds for others or volunteers regularly.  For many of us, we do it on a regular basis.  I had the pleasure to meet and honor a man who truly has gone above and beyond what other parents have done.  Reginald “Reggie” Smith is an exceptional man.  He has 4 kids, most are older, but the youngest is 11.  Reggie volunteers as the assistant troop leader for his sons Boy Scout troop.  This does come natural to him since he did serve our county.  The truly exceptional thing he did was donate his bone marrow to a 14 year old boy.  He signed up for this while in the service. Years later, he finds out that he is needed to serve once again.  This time is was not for our country, but to help save a young mans life.

Reggie fought for our country; he is helping turn young boys into exceptional young men, and selflessly gave his bone marrow to save another.  I can not think of a more deserving person to receive this honor.  After meeting him, his family, and his friends, I knew beyond a doubt that he deserved to be our next “Parent With a Purpose.”  Thank you Reggie for everything you have done, and everything you will do.
