The Lafayette Animal Control Center is once again hosting the Annual Rabies Clinics on May 20 and May 27 at multiple locations throughout Lafayette Parish. In partnership with Lafayette area veterinarians, the annual event is offered to pet owners as an affordable and convenient way to keep their animals up-to-date on rabies vaccinations.
“Ensuring our dogs and cats are current on their rabies vaccinations is not just the law, but also the right thing to do. We want to make sure that the pets in the parish are healthy while also protecting our citizens,” stated Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux. “We really hope pet owners will take advantage of this easy and cost-saving opportunity.”
The cost per animal is $7 CASH and all pets must be properly leashed or crated. Pet owners are asked to kindly clean up after their pets.
The Rabies Clinics will be offered on two Saturdays at multiple sites. All clinics will be held from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. The Rabies Clinics are scheduled as follows:
Saturday, May 20, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Because of the popularity of this community event, attendees are encouraged to come early with the paperwork already completed. The form can be downloaded at http://www.lafayettela.gov/
All animals in Lafayette Parish over the age of four months must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian and registered with the city yearly. There are fines associated with failure to vaccinate pet against rabies. Pet owners are instructed to consult their veterinarians regarding other vaccinations pet should be given.
Due to the vaccine required, ferrets are not eligible for vaccination at the annual rabies clinics and must be vaccinated at a veterinarian's office.
