The Adventure Camp at Acadiana Animal Aid will provide fun while simultaneously: 1) teaching the importance of animal care and welfare, 2) instilling compassion for humans and animals, and 3) inspiring a life-long appreciation and respect for animals that will benefit the future of our local community.

During each one-week session, approximately 20-30 camp attendees will be introduced to shelter dogs and cats and taught how to properly care for them, what to do when encountering a stray animal, what it means to ‘Adopt, don’t Shop’, as well as the importance of vaccinations and regular veterinarian visits. Our camp attendees will also get a close and personal view of running a shelter facility and understand how we are able to save animals from euthanasia via our transport program. Camp attendees will learn about animal welfare issues in our area such as dog fighting and overpopulation.

Alongside the educational aspect of the program, we will also have several fun, creative activities like arts and crafts planned for each day of the week. Activities include: homemade dog treats and chew toys, cement paw-print stepping stones, PVC pipe agility course for dog play yard, and various painting/drawing/coloring/sidewalk chalk activities.

Acadiana Animal Aid is the largest animal rescue no-kill shelter organization in the region.  For over 40 years, AAA rescuers have worked tirelessly to achieve its mission: Until they all have a home. Through adoption and transport initiatives, education programs for school children, and community outreach, AAA leads the way in inspiring a healthy community through compassion for animals. In 2016 alone, over 2,600 companion animals were saved due to our adoption and transport programs.
