Campers will learn about their heart defects and find their community while participating in activities such as team building, archery, canoing, sports, arts/crafts, and other fun activities.
Camp is from May 28-June 4 and free for 1st time campers
Camp Bon Coeur (Camp Good Heart!) has been a life-changing haven for children with congenital heart defects (CHD) since 1985, giving them a rare space to “just be a kid.” For many, it’s their first time meeting others who share the same emotional and physical challenges of growing up with a heart that’s needed mending. The program has expanded from a single summer camp into year-round support, including family camps, monthly support groups, and community outings. As the only program of its kind in Louisiana—and one of only a few in the nation—Camp Bon Coeur fills a critical gap for the 42,000 children born with heart defects each year in the U.S., conditions that require lifelong care and often multiple surgeries.
Beyond medical realities, the camp provides a safe, uplifting environment where children grow socially, emotionally, and confidently. Its impact extends even to those without CHD; as one former counselor said, “This camp changed my life,” reflecting the deep bonds and shared understanding that form among campers and staff. Business Review
As a former camper and staff member who has been involved with Camp Bon Coer since 2000, I can tell you the place is life-changing. Camp taught me what I was capable of and to have a voice. That I was allowed to say yes I can. To push my boundaries in a safe and loving environment. I can without a doubt tell you that camp has helped shape me into the woman I am today. I even met my husband at camp! He too has a heart defect even though he was never a camper himself
As the mom of a child born with heart disease, it's always a concern that your child will be excluded because they are different. Camp Bon Coeur is a place where our "heart kids" can feel like "normal kids." My daughter first attended camp when she was 7, and we are planning to return this summer for her second year. The staff is so caring and supportive, and they are all highly trained. Some of the camp nurses are heart patients themselves, and the camaraderie between the staff and campers is awesome. My daughter looks forward to seeing her camp freinds again, and I know that this is a place she will make wonderful lifelong memories.
I have CHD and my experience with CBC was nothing short of amazing. I can say with 100% that it has changed my life. It not only helped me meet other kids that go through the same thing, but it gave me confidence as a person. I will forever be grateful for that time and CBC.
