Lafayette Parish Schools Post State-Leading Gains in LEAP Performance

July 3, 2025

LEAP data released today shows strong academic growth among Lafayette Parish students, earning the district a top 10 spot in the state.

According to the report from the Louisiana Department of Education, 43 percent of LPSS students scored Mastery or above on the 2025 LEAP assessments, 8 percentage points higher than the state average of 35 percent. LPSS also ranked third for overall performance among the 10 largest school districts in the state.

“This kind of sustained growth doesn’t happen by accident,” said Francis Touchet Jr., Superintendent of Lafayette Parish Schools. “It reflects the dedication of our students and staff, our commitment to equity, and our belief that every student can succeed. We are proud of this progress but not satisfied. Every percentage point reflects a student, a teacher, a team.”

As more data becomes available, LPSS will continue to highlight growth across all student groups, because for this district, progress is only the beginning.

“We’re just getting started,” Touchet said.
