Lafayette Public Library’s Summer Reading Kickoff is just a few days away!
To celebrate the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge, the library is throwing a kickoff party this Saturday, June 7, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Main Library.
Families are invited to enjoy a day of fun activities, including a fun jump, dunk tank, petting zoo, balloon artists, face painting, live performances from Mitch the Magician (who is performing at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm), and an appearance from Bluey & Bingo. Families can sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge at the kickoff celebration as well.
Sponsors for the kickoff include Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Lafayette Public Library Foundation, Republic Services, Lafayette Consolidated Government, Friends of the Lafayette Public Library, and Acadiana Fun Jumps.
The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge is Color Our World, and the goal is to read at least 20 minutes every day through July 31. All reading counts, including books, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, and even reading to non-readers.
Reading for 30 days earns a participant a prize pack and a chance to win the grand prize. Participants who reach 50 days of reading earn a bonus prize and an extra entry in the grand prize drawing. Prizes will be available for pickup at any library location starting June 24.
