Author Margaret Simon will be signing her book, Bayou Song: Creative Explorations of
the South Louisiana Landscape, at the Farmer’s Market this weekend. Come meet her at the
Children’s Corner where children can hear a story, work on an activity sheet from a book, and
talk with local authors.
Bayou Song: Creative Explorations of the South Louisiana Landscape, published by UL
Press, is a poetic journey along Louisiana’s Bayou Teche. Through poetry and art children can
explore the plants and animals that live along and in the bayou. It’s also an interactive journal
that invites readers to write poems and create their own art.
Margaret is a Mississippi native who married into a Louisiana life. She lives on the
Bayou Teche in New Iberia with her husband, Jeff. They have three daughters. Margaret has
been an elementary school teacher for 31 years, and now teaches gifted students in Iberia
Parish. She has published poems in local and national magazines and journals. Her first book,
Blessen, a novel for young readers, was published in April 2012, by Border Press. Margaret will
be featured at the Louisiana Book Festival in Baton Rouge November 10, and she will also
represent Louisiana authors at the 2018 National Book Festival in Washington DC. Follow her

The Children’s Corner at the Farmer’s Market is hosted by Acadiana Children’s Book
