Writes of Spring Writing Contest

March 5, 2015
The Lafayette Public Library is looking for young writers! Students in grades K – 12 can submit original pieces of short fiction, nonfiction, drama (high school only) or poetry in English or French to this year’s “Writes of Spring” writing contest, an annual competition aimed at fostering creative writing among our area’s youth.

This year, all students are encouraged to enter the writing contest using the online entry/submission form at LafayettePublicLibrary.org. Paper (non-digital) submissions will be accepted from students in grades K - 6 only, and can be dropped off at any Lafayette Public Library branch.

“We’re so excited to offer this program as a way to reward the creativity of teens and children in our area,” says Amy Wander, Youth Services Manager at the Lafayette Public Library. “We hope the contest will inspire kids to write and explore creative writing for years to come.”

First place winners will be published in the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s literary journal, the “Southwestern Review.” All winners will receive a Writes of Spring 2015 Anthology donated by Touche Printing & Signs.

The library will also host teen author Sarah Guillory, who will conduct a reading after the high school awards ceremony on May 7, 2015 at 7:15 p.m. This event is open to the public.
