LCG Partners for Free Bicycle Safety Festival

May 26, 2016

Lafayette Consolidated Government, in partnership with Bike Lafayette and Broussard & David, LLC, will host the first Bicycle Safety Festival on Saturday, June 4 at Parc Sans Souci from 9 am until noon. Bicyclists of all ages are invited to participate in the free event which will feature an instruction in bicycle safety, bike helmet fitting and bicycle inspections.

According to organizers, the event is intended to help cyclists and motorists become more knowledgeable about bicycle safety and the rules of the road. "In this refreshing era of smart growth and planning, the aim of this event is to educate our community about bicycle safety in an effort to help motorists and cyclists enjoy safe and lawful use of our streets,” stated Blake David, event organizer and partner at Broussard & David Law Firm.

As Lafayette embraces more bicycle lanes and smarter growth, bicycle awareness is becoming even more essential. "In Lafayette, the number of cyclists on the road is continuously growing. To prevent injury and fatalities, to make our roads safer and more accessible for cyclists and motorists alike, it starts with education,” said April Courville of Bike Lafayette. “The cycling movement is not going away. Now is the time to be proactive and this festival is part of that effort."

Free adult and youth certified bicycle helmets will be given away to the first 300 participants, and free bike lights are available while supplies last. Attendees are encouraged to ride or bring their bikes to the Festival to be registered for free ($5 cost savings) with the Lafayette Police Department, making owner identification easier in the event of theft.

This family-friendly event will also include fun activities like a bike obstacle course for kids and a stationary bike race. Free food and refreshments will be provided along with musical entertainment by Zydeco Radio.

In Acadiana, there have been far too many cyclists injured in preventable bicycle accidents. Attendees who complete a short bicycle safety course, led by trained volunteers, will be eligible to win a free bicycle valued at $300, courtesy of Hub City Cycles and Bike Lafayette.

This free event is made possible through the support of Broussard & David Law Firm. In sponsoring this event, the partners at Broussard & David, LLC hope that -- through education and training -- the roads will be safer for bicyclists, motorists and pedestrians alike.
