Take On Lafayette

April 28, 2016

AOC Community Media is looking for volunteers interested in supporting the community while gaining new skills as part of a new project called Take On Lafayette.

“The meaning of Take On Lafayette is two-fold,” said Ed Bowie, AOC executive director. “First, we want to see your take on what is happening in Acadiana. And second, we are asking people to help record and share some of the awesome informational, educational and entertaining things happening in Lafayette all the time. These volunteers will multiply the information.”

Volunteers, either individually or as part of a crew, will choose assignments according to their interests and then record non-commercial local events on behalf of community organizations. AOC is accepting volunteers of all levels from beginners to professionals.

Volunteers who join a Take On Lafayette crew will receive free on-assignment coaching and free access to necessary equipment. Content recorded and edited by volunteer crew members will ultimately be seen on AOC’s two television channels, Cox Communications 15 and 16 and LUS Fiber 3 and 4, as well as online.

The growing greatest of Lafayette Parish was the inspiration of AOC’s new project.

“Our city is the real deal, and people are starting participate in a big way,” said Bowie. “But not everything in our area is getting the attention it deserves. Every week, countless events and stories are not shared on mainstream media or AOC. Help AOC Take On Lafayette and shine a light on all of Lafayette Parish, not just the parts that make the front page or the best of lists.”

Applying is simple and can be done online at aocinc.org or in person at AOC.
